Review: South Park “Tegridy Farms”
Two series cover vapes in the same week…
Overview (Spoilers Below)
Randy decides to fuck off with his geological career and opts to open a cannabis farm. He sells his house, takes his wife and kids, and opens “Tegridy Farms”, a once thriving operation that soon comes under threat the growth of vaping which is sweeping South Park Elementary much to the delight of “Big Vape”. It doesn’t take long before Cartman and his usually dopey sidekick Butters decide to launch a vape selling business and cash in, the problem is, the duo are in debt and under the scope by Kyle who wants to bring down the concept of selling vape shit to kids.
Randy wants to bring down Big Vape as well and teams up with Towelie to take down the conglomerate while Kyle, Cartman, and Butters want to rob the joint so as to make back some of that past due money. The Big Vape building gets blown up and Randy goes on his merry way in the bustling marijuana business in them darn Colorado hills.
Our Take
Interesting that Family Guy and South Park would cover the same topic within mere days of each other through the spin here is, of course, the conversation about cannabis and WHO BETTER THAN TOWELIE?!
How about that? The second week in a row, the producers of South Park give us a seldom used character in the form of Towelie who factors in quite hilariously in the climax. While I don’t think he’s going to have quite the controversial impact that Mr. Hankey did last week, it was still a good time to see our ol’ pal made out of cloth. That’s not to say this week’s episode of South Park didn’t come with some qualms.
For example, when Randy and the others head to the farms, I didn’t really hear many objections out of Stan until more than halfway through the episode. I think I would’ve liked to have spent a bit more time with him and really get into a rather big deal in that, well, that’s Stan’s house! How many memories have been generated in that residence? Hell, the fucking movie kicks off from it! I think one of the more troubling and growing trends of South Park the last couple of seasons is the marginalization of Stan as a main character. Once seen as an important figure point in the show’s plot, Stan has become a seldom used character that gets nowhere near the screen time that he used to, even when compared to his dad! And where the hell has Kenny been? Have we even seen him all season up to this point? How about a little more diversity as opposed to the rather common “B”-plot that usually sees Butters and Cartman get into some sort of scheme that Kyle has to break up.
South Park’s gonna have to diversify an tad more in its character usage as a lot of the makeup of the series suffers when we are relegated to the “role players” of the show. And what’s with the late eighties/early nineties jams? I think we could’ve done a little better in the music production department in finding us more contemporary tunes in which to set up a killer fight with.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
