Review: Alvinnn!!! and the Chipmunks “Tee Fore Two”

Was this episode a Hole-in-one?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

Responding to a flyer from their local high school, Alvin volunteers to caddy at a charity golf tournament with the prize being “season sports tickets” to the winner, but surprisingly gets paired up with his teacher Miss Smith.

Our Take

While we do get an obligatory musical montage in this one, this feels less cringeworthy compared to Temporary Mom with Alvin making a legit effort to grasp the concept of what Golf-Caddy is all about, and Dave even steps in by getting Alvin the proper equipment through a yard sale purchase and even helps him learn the basics which I felt was kinda cute and very father-like on his end.

When Alvin is assigned to his no-nonsense teacher, it’s clear that neither of them wants to be assigned to each other at first, as Miss Smith doesn’t even want to take the advice of Alvin who actually trained and understood the game more compared to her, but eventually comes around to Alvin’s newfound wisdom on the sport.

There’s also a non-music montage, that excels in physical comedy in combination with humor from the commentator being annoyed by his co-host, but doubts start to set in when what Alvin doesn’t know is that a rival caddy has switched a specific club meant for Miss Miller when Alvin’s head is turned away and realistically, you’d think someone else in the crowd would’ve taken notice of this under-handed bullshit.

Overall, while the episode wasn’t perfect and the ending was somewhat predictable, It still gave me a small chuckle during the proceedings and one “Awww” moment when Dave looks out for Alvin. I think this episodes biggest flaw is its overuse of montages. I get that we’re left to assume that time passes during the course of them, along with showing how far a character has progressed, but there’s a difference between moving an episode’s plot forward within the running time and pressing the fast-forward button.
