English Dub Review: Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 “Prison Planet 17”
Time to build a prison!
Overview (Spoilers Below)
This week a bunch of Earth’s warriors from the Yamato gets taken to a prison planet, but thanks to a well-timed riot, it looks like we’re on our way out. We reconnect with some past pals in the process and the Gamilians look like they are kinda fucked anyway at this juncture.
Our Take
The best part of this episode is the riot scene. It’s funny, well choreographed, and should be placed right next to the Guardians of the Galaxy prison escape as one of the most fun. I also couldn’t help but notice that more dollars appear to be put into the production value of the series as it goes on and while we’ve mostly been noticing the scale, the finesse in the background designs are also starting to become more prudent. Plot holes show up as a result, but they require getting VERY spoilery, and this is an episode that has some fun twists and turns that those following the series are gonna wanna see.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
