Review: South Park “Wieners Out”
This week’s new episode of South Park, “Wieners Out” was another great piece of this season’s arc.
Spoilers Below
“Wieners Out” wasn’t too funny of an episode, except in a spot or two, but as usual, it had some really great, biting satire and some interesting throwbacks to other seasons (the World of Warcraft troll). I love all the connections that Matt and Trey make more and more.
The episode starts out with a strange kind of commentary on ancient Denmark– and when they had to deal with actual trolls (the monsters). This intro was stylistically like a monster film– the art is so polished and refined now in places! Then, the intro piece links the mythology to today– how internet trolls run rampant online.
Meanwhile, Gerald is trying to deal with his fear that someone knows his secret, we find out Cartman now has a girlfriend, and Butters starts a movement to empower males– much to Kyle’s chagrin.
The craziest moment of this episode was hands down when Sheila and Gerald have some watersports play in the bedroom –an event that only occurred after Gerald lied about his online activities. And for some reason, they fail to close or lock their door. It was a very traumatizing experience.
The lack of really funny moments was okay, due to how great of a cliffhanger this episode was– much like the others of this season. I don’t know what it is this season– why it’s so excellent. I think maybe just the combination of elements– and the fact that they can put current events into the dialogue (they mentioned “locker room talk”.)
As usual, looking forward to next week’s South Park. I want to see where all of this goes!
