Review: Star vs The Forces of Evil “Sleepover; Gift of the Card”
Bring a blanket.
Spoilers Below
Star Butterfly is hosting a sleepover and everyone is there. Marco tries his best to look cool for Jackie but sorta fails. Ponyhead suggests they play a truth or dare game. The game cube asks them a question and, if someone lies, there are consequence to face. Each time the cube asks a question, someone lies. The first few consequences are ugly but the final one almost kills them. Star saves everyone by telling the game cube that there is no real truth about feelings or opinions. They change all the time. That pretty much makes the cube implode. At least everyone had a good time, right?
In “Gift of the Card,” Star finds an unused Quest Buy gift card she gave Marco. Unfortunately, the card expires at midnight. And Star didn’t read the fine print when she got the card. Meaning – if Marco doesn’t find a gift before midnight, they will be expired! At first, Marco can’t find anything. When he finally does, it’s out of stock. But the sloths are able to find one at the last possible second, just after the monstrous gift card kills a bounty hunter sent by Miss Heinous. Well, at least Marco got his ultra-secure wallet. Too bad Janna can still break into it.
It is rare that both episodes are good. This is one of those times. Marco confessed his crush to Jackie in “Sleepover,” Star and Marco reaffirmed their best friendship in “Gift of the Card,” and we got to see so many side characters. These are the types of things that make this show great. We don’t need to see Star doing strange things all the time. We just need to see her be an awesome friend to everyone. Oh, and Ponyhead. There is always a need for Ponyhead.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
