Review: Bordertown – “Santa Ana Winds” (S1Ep8)

There are multiple storylines happening at once in this episode. A very funny rendition of “Greased Lightning” sung to the new parodic tune of “Leaf Lightning” leads us to Ernesto’s most powerful foe to date – the Demon Leaf. Ernesto’s most prized leaf blower tries to defeat the leaf, but is defeated in the process. He later crosses paths with a Native American guide who speaks tales of the demon leaf. When Ernesto returns to confront the leaf himself, he only finds his guide was decapitated. Good thing for him there was a net set up and a head the size of a soccer ball. ::kick:: GOAAAALLLLL!
Bud met a Mexican version of himself and let him into the United States without blinking an eye. Instead of Mexican Bud staying in the US, he persuaded American Bud to travel to Mexico with him to start a new life. He was soon treated in the same demeaning manner in which he treats Mexicans.
Sanford traveled down to Mexico after he found out that his favorite energy drink had been banned in the United States. It’s there that he acquires the banned Mexican energy drink, “Huevos”, which is leagues above the US version. As a result, insomnia caused him to write multiple award-winning screenplays, which later backfired.
All this time, JC was persevering through conspicuous thoughts about the mysterious Santa Ana Winds. It’s believed as though when these winds come around, strange happenings occur. Becky and he traveled far and wide to find the origin point of these winds. During their adventure, they arrived at a sophisticated facility that appeared to keep a watchful eye on the entire Mexifornia area. While inside, JC was taken down with a swift hit to the head, while Becky was hit with everything up to and including a piano to no avail. A tranquilizer was then needed to knock her out.
A notable moment for me was when the winds took cocaine off of Pablo Barracuda’s table and onto Whitney Houston’s grave. A giant straw popped out of the ground and all I could do was laugh. In fact, I found myself laughing much more this episode than any of the previous ones. Keep it coming, Bordertown.

There’s a lot going on in the episode, but this one is worth the watch.
