Review: Fugget About It “Keepin’ Up with the McFelchers”

A true long-lasting friendship is tricky to come by nowadays. The chances of coming across somebody who shares your sensibilities and interests can be difficult when you’re a former mob member hiding out in Regina, Saskatchewan. But luckily enough for Jimmy, lightning struck last night on an all new Fugget About It. How was the episode overall? Read on to find out!

In “Keeping Up with the McFelchers” Jimmy’s new neighbour turns out to be a Quebec biker who’s also in witness protection. Jimmy is banned from associating with him, but then realizes his new pal is about to commit a heist. Jimmy has to stop the robbery or join in. Meanwhile, Petey discovers the advantages of being attractive.

This was a pretty good episode overall. This episode really showed us how far Jimmy has come since his old life. He finally meets somebody who is much like himself, they bond, they meet each other’s wives, it’s a great time. The problem is that this new friend is more like the Jimmy from the old life, not the Jimmy that has grown and evolved in Canada. When Jacque (Jimmy’s new friend) decides to pull off a heist, Jimmy is put in a tough place. Which life does he embrace? His old life or his new life? It goes to show you that these characters are capable of changing their ways, though sometimes you may not notice it. So, as far as the story goes, it was very well done.

This wasn’t the strongest episode for laughs. A lot of the jokes this time around were lost on me. Petey’s story actually had me laughing more. Seeing this geeky kid become superficial was pretty entertaining. Although, I think it suffered the opposite of the main story. The story was just lacking. Predictable from start to finish, but the journey garnered many laughs.

This episode focused a lot on the characters. Personally, that’s one of my favorite things you can do in an episode. Tell us and show us more about the characters we watch every week. The more I can buy into the characters, the more I end up enjoying the story, and the jokes usually connect better as well.

Overall, this was a pretty good outing for Fugget About It. An episode that may have lacked a bit in the jokes department, but made up for it with a look into how far we’ve seen Jimmy come. Jacque was an alright character. Essentially he was a French Jimmy. Nothing too fascinating about him, but I like to think that he represents what Jimmy once was, so when you put the characters next to one another, it’s almost like a reflection of time. What once was and what is now.
