Tenacious D teases animated series
Ultimate Guitar recently conducted an interview with one half of Tenacious D aka Kyle Gass. During the course of the story, Kyle talked up the Tenacious D animated series that has long been in development. Surprisingly, this thing doesn’t sound completely dead, but from the sounds of it, it’s still a long way off:
UG: Is there a target date for the next D album? Have you been in the studio yet or is it still in the writing stages?
KG: We’ve just been writing a little bit. So I’d say we’re nowhere near recording but… I don’t know if I’m allowed to say… but I’m just going to say it anyways. We’re working on an animated series. That’s all I can say. And we’ve made some music for that. But you didn’t hear that from me.
UG: Is this something for HBO or for the Internet?
KG: Does it matter?
UG: I want to know where to keep my peepers out for it.
KG: Everything is everywhere nowadays anyway. It will be on a flat screen near you. We should have done an exclusive release where people can only watch it on their smartphone.
Originally, a Tenacious D animated series was supposed to happen on Yahoo, but from the sounds of it Yahoo’s getting ready for a buy, so I doubt that comes to fruition. In any case, I fucking love Tenacious D and I hope this thing happens. Recently the band was featured in a bunch of animated shorts for IFC, but I doubt the animated series would be on that network due to the fact that they have no interest in jumping back into the format since Out There got cancelled.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
