SVP of OP exits IFC; Possible explanation for ‘Out There’s’ cancellation?

Senior VP of Original Programming for IFC Debbie DeMontreux has exited IFC after 25 years with the network according to Deadline. However, is it possible that Out There’cancellation was the beginning of the fallout?

It takes anywhere between six to nine months for an animated series to develop a bunch of episodes, so when we heard of Out There’s cancellation earlier this year, Debbie’s impending departure very well could have been a reason why the show wasn’t picked up. Furthermore, I am hearing from a different set of sources altogether that IFC doesn’t want in on the animation game anymore and that Out There was merely a casualty of changing business models. That means, don’t expect any new animated content coming on IFC anytime soon.

In the meantime, I hear that executive producer and creator of Out There, Ryan Quincy, is continuing to shop the series for an eventual pickup. Let’s hope this happens, because Out There was one of the best new shows of 2013
