Short Review: Descendants Wicked World – “Genie Chic”

Descendants-Wicked-World-15

Last time, Mal wished the gang into Jordan’s magic lamp. That means that Freddie and her mysterious friend are now in Auradon too.

Before anyone can get a word out, though, Jordan makes them change their clothes. Well, except for Ben. She gives him a pass since no one has rocked harem pants since her father. She zaps the girls into some “genie chic” styles. Mal and Evie get dress versions of their previous duds, while Audrey gets shorts with a skirt overlay and Freddie gets something like harem pants. Overall, they don’t look that bad. Mal, with a chiffon dress, is the only one not happy with the new clothes.

As Ben points out that they must be really small, since they are in a lamp, Freddie’s mysterious friend sneezes. Freddie covers it up saying she sneezed because she’s allergic to lamps. This leads Ben to tell her that he gets his allergies from his dad and the two begin comparing their fathers. Freddie wishes she could see Ben’s father’s birthday dance but she isn’t sure she’s allowed to stay in Auradon. Of course, Ben invites her to attend Auradon Prep, much to Audrey’s horror. Ben starts discussing all of the things they will need to do to finish Freddie’s registration, when Jordan reminds them that they need to get out of her lamp. However, the only way out of the lamp would be to use Mal’s last wish. Evie wonders if Mal wants to use her last wish to get out of the lamp. Jordan points out that they will regret staying if she doesn’t. Mal wishes the gang out of the lamp but we don’t get to see where they go.

Somehow, so much and so little happens at the same time in these episodes. We see a few more tidbits about the characters’ personalities but very little actually happens to advance the plot. Maybe now that Freddie will be attending Auradon Prep (do you think she needs to tell her dad?), things will happen. It seems like we get so close to an event but then the episode ends. This show might kill me two minutes at a time.
