Comic review: Bravest Warriors #36

BravestWarriors_036_A_Main

This is it. The final issue of the Bravest Warriors comic. What will happen to our heroes?

With the Warriors back on their spaceship, Plum and Peach take up stations on the planet with Catbug. Everyone on the planet focuses their powers on the sky. But it’s just not enough power.

Meanwhile, up on the ship, the Warriors are worrying that the portal won’t be big enough. Beth regrets that she will die before she has french kissed. I think Danny regrets not really being in love? He’s going on about being dizzy and vomiting. Just as Beth and Danny lean in to kiss, Wallow brings them back to reality.

Back on the planet, Catbug asks Bugcat to help them. But Catbug stole his powers! Catbug agrees to return his brother’s powers as long as he helps his people. The brothers transform into their battle modes and unleash their powers onto the portal.

Now that the portal is wide enough, the Warriors turn on their ship’s thrusters and push the planet out of the Matter Shark. Outside the shark, Catbug’s planet enters an orbit with Plum’s planet. The Warriors celebrate and the Catbug people nap.

Bugcat is crowned king of his people. Catbug tries to get him to promise to be good. With their job finished, the Warriors turn to other matters. Chris wonders about the Aeon Worm. Danny wonders about The Emotion Lord. Beth wants to head back to Impossibear. The gang looks up to the sky as Chris says he’s up for whatever.

The end.

This issue’s side story is titled “Pal-i-versary.” Impossibear is showing all of the minor characters (and Robo-Chris) around a Bravest Warriors theme park. He shows them a huge statue of himself but his color flaps are all wrong. Forgetting about his flaps, he gives the sidekicks some Impossibucks to spend at the gift shop. Everyone cheers for Impossibear and they head off to the gift shop.

A gender-swapped Beth and Chris come over to have Impossibear kiss their baby. But the baby is Catbug. The theme park starts to come apart, waking Impossibear from his dream. Suddenly, a strange Catbug with a crazy hairdo appears next to him. And Impossibear has the same hairdo. Beth and Chris rush into the dark room. The light flick on and it is a Pal-i-versary party! Everyone dances around as Wallow jumps out of the cake. Yeah, it’s weird.

Well, that’s how it ends. No resolution on why Catbug left his people or why he dislikes them so much. I feel like this should have been an extra-long issue. It should have left out the side story and just focused on tying up all the loose ends on the main story. The writers started some ideas but never finished them. It’s kinda annoying. Those last few panels were rather hopeful but the story, as a whole, lacked substance. And that side story was just crap. I’m pretty sure that was a plotline someone thought up while drunk at a party and someone else thought it sounded good. I’m sad the comic is ending like this.
