‘South Park’ Creators Say Show Will Go On Until They Are Canceled
Nowadays there are two major fears when it comes to TV shows: a series can either be prematurely canceled, or will jump the shark and become stale before a proper finale is aired.
South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone don’t have a phobia of either outcome, as they simply plan to keep the show going until Comedy Central pries it from their cold, dead hands. (Editor’s Note: Not a direct quote.)
The cartoon mainstay has already been renewed for a 19th season this year and a 20th in 2016 – and with the high quality of recent episodes, the end still appears quite far off.
However, thoughts of the eventual end cross their minds once in a while.
“Every season, about three shows in, we say this should be the last season,” Parker told IGN. “Then we go away for a couple months and we’re like, ‘That was pretty good, let’s do it again.'”
And why not? Trey & Matt have always known the show could be canned at any time and they still fought on – so there’s really no point in changing things now, Parker explained. “We’ve thought that for 18 years, ‘Okay, well, they’re gonna cancel us for sure.’ We’ve been waiting to get canceled for 18 fucking years.”
If the show does eventually get the axe, they’ve thought a bit about how to go out – and it’s not with a bang. “I think it’s gonna end with a fizzle for sure,” Parker said. “We’re gonna go, ‘Fuck this, man’ and walk away.”
“Some sort of a whimper,” Stone added. “Either drop the mic, get sued, get thrown off television…something like that.”
Although nowadays large numbers of folks are calling for other classic shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy to bow out while they still have some dignity, I disagree. Sure, the quality has declined, but I’m hoping to live a long life and still be outlasted by my favorite shows, simply because I’d prefer to continue living in a world where there are still new episodes. Thus, I appreciate the fight of Trey & Matt, and what can easily be their new battle cry:
“We won’t stop until we get canceled. We’re renewing,” Stone said. “They have to fucking cancel us, goddammit!”

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
