English Dub Review: The Rolling Girls “After the Rain”

“After the Rain,” answered what my biggest gripe from “Give Me the Stars” was. We got answers as to why Misa and Mamechiyo were at odds. Of course, we knew they were friends, but what got them to the point of being bitter rivals was intriguing. Mamechiyo, for all intent and purpose, got the screws put to her. She went on for most of her teenage years thinking that her best friend hated her for being a geisha. The thing that I took away from here is that a newly introduced mother always does things with the best intentions, but always ends up screwing up at the end. How everything was laid out during the episode was great.

However, the big payoff here was the final segment at the concert venue. Misa is still trying to get the nerve to play, but couldn’t. Mamechiyo stole Misa’s stone, and threw it into the river because of how Misa has flat out ignored her. Well, Mamechiyo got the stone,  and it was a race to the concert before Shu’s explosives exploded all over the people. Well, Mamechiyo and company all make it to the venue, and made one of the best endings to an episode I’ve seen since I’ve started watching anime.

“After the Rain” ended with this huge concert setting, complete with huge ass cannons, explosive robots, and even fucking rainbows. Everything about the ending was just magnificent. The worst part was the singing of the voice actress of Misa, but even that gave a feel good feeling. Mamechiyo broke out her shamisen, and rocked out with Misa and the band. Words honestly do not describe how awesome this scene was. If you want to see how an animated, nothing held back, balls out concert scene, watch the final five or so minutes of “After the Rain.”

“After the Rain” was easily the best episode of The Rolling Girls thus far. How I got there was pretty simple. For the first 16 minutes, the plot was laid out very well, in normal The Rolling Girls fashion. The concert scene at the end put everything over the top. The normal phrase for a situation like this is “easy A.” However, this was an easy 10.
