Comics Review: Adventure Time: Marceline Gone Adrift #2
Hey, look guys! It’s Marceline…IN SPACE!
“Marceline Gone Adrift” had me surprised. I was expecting a tale of Marceline just drifting through the different locations of Ooo, but instead, we get something a little bit more fulfilling. While the first comic dealt with Princess Bubblegum shooting Marceline into space, the second dealt with the repercussions directly after PB sent Marceline into space. I’ve got to say, this is a really well thought out mini-series thus far. Wait, did I just pay Kaboom! a complement? I think I was reading the wrong line of comics from them.
Anyway, the tones in “Marceline Gone Adrift” are pretty serious, and almost dark. From the beginning of the issue, it deals with the over commercialization of someone’s death or demise, with Suspencer putting out an entire line of merchandise right after Marcy got shot out into space. Later on, it dealt with Finn and his misrememberance of what happened at Marcy’s house before she got charged up with electricity. I think this was more of a comedic relief story, because the rest of the book was serious as hell. We even dove into PB’s mental state after the ill-fated action.
She took a look back at the times her and Marcy had while she was building the Candy Kingdom, as well as when PB showed up to Marceline’s concert later that night. Speaking from a fan’s point of view, it teases a possible plot line that most fans have been clinging onto since it first appeared on the show, that being PB and Marceline were once together. If that’s the case, this is being done a lot more tasteful for the viewer / reader, because it’s making us think and speculate, rather than just serving it up to us, and doing it just to create press.
All in all, I think this was a fantastic issue. “Marceline Gone Adrift” is a quality book, that I will probably read again and again. The writing was on point, and the art was phenomenal. This is a near perfect storm for Kaboom!, and I hope they keep this going. “Marceline Gone Adrift” is a story that has started out with a fury, and I hope it doesn’t stop.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
