FX says it’s the best network, however it’s all about Archer for animated
I like FX Prez John Landgraf because he seems like one of those guys that has a salesman mentality to take off the heads of his competitors. During his recent presentation he noted that his network’s TV shows get way more mentions by critics than just about all of the other nets with the exception of HBO which has by far the most. Undoubtedly, the lone returning FX animated series Archer, is certainly on a lot of top 10 lists by year’s end including our own.
Archer EP Matt Thompson mentioned that there are some rather graphic sex scenes coming to season six which is a relatively untapped (no pun intended) market for cartoons on TV…that being sex, So, it looks as though the show is still setting standards, the problem is FX, with all of its success, still hasn’t found a worthy companion animated series for the award-winning series. Christ knows, the network has tried. Serious efforts like Unsupervised and Chozen had shown a lot of promise, however neither were able to deliver on numbers, so now they are relegated to that of the animated archives for the network. But, with no sign of the Seth Rogen-produced effort in sight, one has to wonder if FX has all but given up on original animated content. FXX’s revival of ADHD is a sign of growth, however, the network really can’t take kudos on that one because the Animation Domination Hi-Def brand was originally a FOX-mainstay.
So, as we get into Upfronts season, it will be interesting to hear if FX decides to pick up a new animated series. Jon Benjamin recently mentioned there was talk of a Pam spin-off, perhaps the network would like to see how much water it can get from the Archer well with that one, but until then, be glad that you have Archer.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
