Review: Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man: Web-Warriors “Nightmare on Christmas”
Spoilers Below
After beating up on the Shocker, Spidey starts to complain that none of his friends from SHIELD are around to entertain him. As a result, Spider-Man falls and goes back in time to an era featuring ‘The Enforcers’ in the retro take of the classic franchise from the 60s. This is a time in his life that happened BEFORE Spider-Man became part of SHIELD. Spidey spends most of this time trying to stop the Enforcers from stealing an Osborn truck. Spider-Man starts to complain a bunch more and he decides to quit being Spider-Man.
Peter gets transported into the future where there is no Spider-Man and SHIELD is trying to fight the Goblin-King. Hawkeye and Nova get taken away leading to Parker returning as Spider-Man. He heads into Goblin’s lair where he comes across a mutated Goblin that has destroyed all of Earth’s heroes and dons the Thor Hammer.
Nightmare shows up and reveals himself as being the one who has been sending Spider-Man into different realities. Turns out, this dude wanted Spidey to retire a rich man…instead he fights Nightmare. Right in the middle of the fight, Spidey gets woken up by Nova which allows Peter to go home and open up his presents.
Nightmare is voiced by Mark Hamill of whom also provided the legendary tracks for Batman: The Animated Series’ ”The Joker”. Mark recently gave up that gig, but I’m not sure why because he pretty much voices the same character in THIS show. For better or worse, that’s what it is. Ultimate Spider-Man going back to the 60’s look was a pretty bad-ass move, but the poorly drawn ‘Shocker’ from the on-set was just all sorts of depressing. As a matter of fact, The Shocker looked like a nine-year old’s depiction of Iron Man, but without the shitty wise-cracks from Tony Stark.
Someone take this show out back behind the shed, and just end it.
