Comic Review: Bravest Warriors #25

Spoilers Below

The Bravest Warriors are gathered around a table playing a game somewhere between Apples to Apples and Cards Against Humanity. It isn’t quite as dirty as CAH but it isn’t as clean as AtA either. Catbug, who isn’t even paying attention to the game, wins the round. Beth gives Chris a scarlatch burn (man, is she getting more violent as the comic goes on or what?) as Catbug wanders off to get a popsicle.

Suddenly, in the middle of the hallway, a portal opens and a red version of Catbug appears. It is BUGCAT! Bugcat is trying to get Catbug to come home. Of course, Catbug refuses. He runs away, deciding to hide in the holo-john. But Bugcat finds him!

The two transform into winged lions in order to continue their fight. As they fight, more of their kind stream out of the portal to join the fray. When Bugcat says that the Warriors will not protect Catbug, our little blue friend vows to protect them. Then he shoots some lightning out of his eyes. He’s now a lightning shooting winged lion. Awesome.

Just then, Danny heads over to the holo-john. He unlocks the door with his passcode and finds Catbug sitting on the floor. Plum arrives to find Catbug injured. She goes to get him some waffles to make it all better. Mmm…waffles.

The side story is another Bugcat feature. This one is titled “Bugcat Bites.” Basically, Bugcat is trying his hardest to annoy the Bravest Warriors but he fails at every turn. First, he screws all of Beth’s furniture to the ceiling. This only makes it easier (and awesomer) for her to get her robe. In the kitchen, he leaves a menacing message on the fridge in word magnets. Wallow catches a grammatical error and fixes it. Bugcat saves over Chris’s progress in his Trail Mix Masters game. Only he has beaten the level that Chris has been stuck on for seven months, making Chris cry with happiness. Back in the kitchen, he confuses Plum as she tries to make dinner. In the library, he gives Impossibear a book that has awesome magical shoes inside. Finally, when he finds Danny sleeping, he draws a huge moustache on the boy’s face. Danny loves it and thinks it makes him look hot. Poor Bugcat. He can’t even piss people off properly.

I loved this issue so much. Catbug is my favorite Bravest Warriors character and it was nice to see a comic all about him. Usually, he gets pushed off to the side as comic relief. It was also very awesome to see his ULTIMATE FORM. I think I might like the winged lion form a bit better. I hope we can see that in the cartoon! That would be amazing.
