This is it, gang. After last night’s episode of American Dad it will now find new life over on TBS starting October 20th. I think it’s an interesting change of times because a part of me feels as though if the circumstances were the same, say… five, ten years ago, American Dad may have very well just been cancelled. Animation targeted towards adults has come a very long way though. It’s great to see TBS showing this show some love, and we all wish it the best! Of course I’ll still be covering every episode, but it sort of feels like a great band breaking up. I enjoyed all of these great animated shows together on Sunday. No time to get sentimental though! On to the review!

I really wanted American Dad to finish it’s run on Fox as strong as possible. Unfortunately, that just didn’t happen last night.

After having feelings of loneliness, Roger and Francine discover an alien who has crash landed in the woods. As it turns out this alien is named…well, I don’t even know how to spell it. Her name is more of a strange sound. But this fluffy, pink alien is voiced by Kim Kardashian and she ends up forming a romantic relationship with Roger, but after a short period of time Roger loses interest her.

Now, if you came here expecting me to rip Kim Kardashian apart, you’re going to be a little disappointed. I know the popular thing to do automatically discredit anything Kim Kardashian does in life, but going into this episode I gave her the benefit of the doubt and crossed my fingers for her. I never like to see anybody do a bad job, even Kim Kardashian. Sadly, it turned out to be just a bad as you may expect. Add voice acting to the list of things this woman can’t do. She really pulled me out of the episode and I didn’t end up having much fun watching. To be fair, she isn’t a professional voice actress, but I still have to critique her like I would with anybody else. If they had brought in Leonardo DiCaprio and he did a terrible job, you can bet I would have mentioned it.

Alright moving on; the story itself wasn’t very engaging either. I had a hard time getting invested in what was going on. I find that the show is funniest when the characters are put into an interesting situation and react to it from there. I didn’t feel the situation was interesting enough, so I didn’t end up appreciating a lot of the jokes.

This episode did have an upside to it though! I really enjoyed the twist on the opening theme song. Usually I would just fast forward through it, but I felt compelled to watch it this time and I’m glad I did because it seamlessly transitioned us into the show. As always, I enjoyed Roger. Not so much when he was speaking with Mrs.West, but he had enough moments on his own that made him interesting. There was also a Family Guy Easter Egg in the episode that I think fans will appreciate (It’s at the truck stop, when Roger is making the phone call). We also got to continue on with a “golden” mini-series that has taken place in American Dad for some time now. Also how the episode ended was nice. It was a nice tip of the hat to Fox and fans who have stuck with the show for nearly a decade. These are all things that salvaged this Fox finale from being a complete waste of time.

Overall, I can’t say that I’m pleased with this episode. I get that is was a fun thing to bring in Kim Kardashian, and if we’re speaking in terms of “fun”. Then it’s fine. I can live with that. But professionally speaking, I was really disheartened she had anything to do with the Fox finale. As I mentioned above though, it wasn’t just her that hurt this episode. It was a combination of a lot of things I had a tough time looking past. I have to say this twenty-two minutes wasn’t without it’s redeeming qualities. If you’ve been a fan of this show for a long time, I think it may be worth watching just for the ending nod. That’s my two cents.

Will you be watching American Dad when it moves to TBS on October 20th? What did you think of this last episode on Fox? Just want to talk some crap about Kim Kardashian? Make use of that comment section!
