Matt Duffy’s Game-Winning RBI Came Off a ‘Simpsons’ Duffman Bat

The score was tied 2-2 in top of the ninth inning. Bases loaded. One out. Full count. The San Francisco Giants were batting against the Arizona Diamondbacks with 23-year-old rookie Matt Duffy at the plate. With a flip of his bat, Duffy dunked a pitch into center field to score the go-ahead run, which proved to be the difference in the Giants’ 3-2 victory.

What’s the secret to Duffy’s heroics? Well, probably the fact that he was a .304 lifetime hitter in the minors prior to his call-up this month, including a .332 average this year. But for purposes of this story, let’s attribute the credit somewhere else: Duffy’s bat features The Simpsons’ Duffman.

That’s right, the fictional spokesman for Duff Beer has his picture on the bottom of Matt’s bat.

So if the Giants squeak their way into this year’s playoffs, they owe at least a bit of thanks to both the real, and fake, Duffman.
