Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Makoto finally arrives in Makkaren village and reunites with his classmate Fujiyan before embarking on his adventurer career. It’s an interesting episode as he learns about a series of twists involving the Goddess Noah, whom he recently devoted himself to. Noah also provides some welcome comic relief throughout the proceedings. From there, Makoto takes a methodical approach to gaining experience, relying on stealth, basic magic, and clever tactics rather than recklessly rushing into battle. It also helps that his interactions with the guild staff and fellow adventurers add some welcome charm.

Despite being more enjoyable than the premiere, the episode still struggles with its pacing, occasionally rushing through developments that could have benefited from more breathing room. The action is reasonably entertaining, and Makoto’s resourcefulness makes his encounters enjoyable, although some of the animation and character movements feel noticeably stiff. Fujiyan’s reappearance is also a welcome addition, helping bring some familiarity and personality to Makoto’s new surroundings.

Overall, this second episode is a noticeable improvement, offering a more engaging look at Makoto’s gradual development as an adventurer. Although the production values remain somewhat inconsistent and the storytelling could use a little more polish, there’s still plenty of room for improvement. Nevertheless, I’m interested to see how the series develops from here.
