Reddit AMA Recap: Burnie Burns of Rooster Teeth

This past weekend so another edition of the RTX event take over Austin, TX, but before that went down, Rooster Teeth co-owner Burnie Burns took part in a Reddit AMA where he talked about a whole bunch of stuff including all of the Rooster Teeth content being produced, how he started the company, and more. One of the more pressing matters is the whereabouts of RwBy, and Burnie tells us that the production quality is looking good:

Production value has stepped up quite a bit. Can’t wait for you guys to see it. Animation projects really gather momentum as you gather a library of assets. RWBY is no exception.

We all know Rooster Teeth got super huge off of Red vs Blue, however RwBy is certainly starting to make its mark as well. Interestingly enough, Burnie seems somewhat un-enthused about the legacy of the series in a rather interesting post when talking about the future of machinima. His response may shock you given that arguably if it weren’t for Red vs Blue, the term machinima may have never entered our lexicon. When asked if Burnie/Rooster Teeth may develop a NEW machinima series:

Nope. The machinima movement morphed into the Let’s Play movement. Some machinima makers have not taken it well, but you can’t tell art which way to go.

EDIT: It’s pretty telling that I have had this computer over a year and I just now had to add the word machinima to my spell check. It shows how little I type the word.

Here that folks? Machinima (not the network, the industry) is dead. Burnie may also hate the Machinima network, too, but that’s just here say.  That said, NEW fans of Red vs Blue seem to be coming on board, and Burnie tells us how Netflix has influenced this:

Years ago. We actually avoided Netflix because we thought it would cannibalize RvB physical sales. After a few years, we asked ourselves why we thought that about Netflix and nothing else. So we decided to go ahead and sign the deal.

It’s crazy how many people watch long form ONLY on Netflix. There are people tweeting to me “finally I can watch Red vs Blue” even though the show is available in almost every format imaginable.

Miles Luna is just as important as anyone at Rooster Teeth in my opinion as he is officially the man with the plan concerning the future of Rooster Teeth’s Red vs Blue. So much so that Burnie has confirmed that both he and Matt Hullum pretty much leave Miles to go with his heart in terms of the future of the franchise:

Miles and I discuss script/story milestones and that’s about it. Miles is at the helm. I don’t believe in turning something over and then trying run it through them. We hired Miles because he gets the voice of RvB, but it’s not a ventriloquist act. He’s doing a kick ass job.

And he sure as hell is. I think that’s a good place to end the recap because this fucking AMA has like 4000 replies and you can read it here.  Red vs Blue returns tonight with a new episode on RoosterTeeth.com at 8 pm.
