Review: Brickleberry ‘My Way or the Highway’

brickleberry

 Spoilers Below

Brickleberry gets a female governor and right away she builds a highway all over HQ mainly due to the fact that Woody talked shit to her.  To help fight back, Connie joins a local militia and Malloy starts a truck stop. Woody heads over to the governor’s mansion to try and sweet talk her into getting rid of the highways, but she declines which causes him to run for mayor.

Malloy loves this idea and acts as Woody’s campaign manager in running for governor. Back at the local militia, Connie decides to bring in a new recruit to help out her, Bodine, and Bobby. Denzel shows up and decides to frame the governor in a sex tape council, but Ethel jumps into the race in protest. Malloy tries to join up with her after getting ditched by Woody and speaking of ditch it looks as though Steve is on his way to one when he gets picked up by a passerby.

Malloy joins up with the militia and usurps himself as leader of the pack. Woody and Ethel take part in a debate, but only the militia show up to ask questions, but after the moderator gets cut down, Ethel drops out. Yep, whoever wins the race is getting assassinated and to thwart and kill attempt both Woody and Ethel put out campaigns trying to get people not to vote for them.

Woody wins the election and offers Malloy to join back in with the party, but the rest of the militia still want blood. As a result they all start shooting each other, but Woody and Ethel escape. Woody stays the governor and orders the removal of the truck stop which also saves Steve. Woody retires and gives the gig to the original governor.

Our Take

Between Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin, and almost every other week on South Park, we’ve seen countless renditions of angry citizens getting pissed off about something and then running for some sort of office. Homer has been mayor, Peter has been a CEO, etc etc. However, this week’s episode was the first time we saw Ethel really do anything noteworthy since last year so that’s a good thing although again not entirely original that we see the independent woman try and run for something as Marge and Lois have. But, the twist was near the end when the two started campaigning for the other one to lose the election…THAT was the spice of this week’s episode. Steve’s plot was sort of a throwaway, and the pacing of Malloy jumping from group to group was a little bit of a pain to get under control, but overall a solid episode.
