Spoilers Below
For the first issue of Bravest Warriors the comic series which comes based from the popular web series of the same name, we meet our warriors as they begin to watch a scary movie. It’s here we meet Chris Kirkman, the bravest of the warriors of whom also has a crush on Beth who is apparently the second bravest. We also meet Danny Vasquez, and a girl that HE seems to have a crush on named, Plum. Lastly, we have the uber-strong Wallow and his wrist-sidekick Pixel. They all sit down expecting to watch a scary movie but instead Wallow puts in a movie with a lot of kissing which causes the other warriors to ponder whether or not the big guy is lonely. Before we can find out, the Warriors have to save the clowns from extinction!
‘LASER SUNDAY’
The warriors are playing laser tag and after taking out the second graders it’s every man for himself! The winner gets to ride shotgun in the ship for a whole month! Eventually, the elimination comes down to just Beth and Danny with Beth laying claim to being the winner…or is she?
The problem I have with the Bravest Warriors so far in its comic form is the fact that it feels like TOO much of a promotional item versus an extension of the animated series of the same name. With a steep price of about $3, one would think you’d get more value from it but instead we get one story that is really just a launch for a story arc and the other which is probably better suited for a comic but due to its length still acts as an assist as opposed to something that’d be worth the purchase of a whole issue. Also, I am having trouble figuring out the target audience, as I was believed to think Cartoon Hangover was for a slightly older audience than Pen Ward’s other deal with Adventure Time which is geared towards children. And yes, some of the dialogue looks like it could be geared to an older audience but when you give me something like the ‘Zombie Foodcourt from Heck”, well now you just come off as pretentious. For the $4 price tag, give me something that’s worth it.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
