When you can’t count on that expensive hog mess we call “modern medicine” to fix your funnybone, Squidbillies Volume 5 is there to scrub up for surgery, y’all! This volume features the complete fifth season, filled with special guest appearances, bonus features like Art + Music, and much more. Your television ain’t never looked this gorgeous!
Similar to the way Metalocalypse sheds light on heavy metal, Squidbillies certainly does a fine job of shining light on Southern art and style. Sure, the show itself does that but particularly when you check out this latest DVD release you really start to appreciate things you’d never thing you would. For example, I’m not a real bug country music fan, but to see how these people come together and record music for an animated series that has as much crude humor as this one is astounding. Like, its weird its almost like getting a chocolate cake right before you bite down on habanero peppers.
I purchased this DVD at Best Buy for about $15, which is a steal nowadays. And when I brought it home I thought I was going to get your normal run of the mill special features. Fuck, the FOX DVDs don’t even have ANY special features nowadays and they cost twice as much, but for $15 not only do you get to truly appreciate how music is put together for the show, but the animators and writers and voice talent showing off all the things THEY do for the show. You almost come to appreciate it quite a bit more and almost feel proud that you are purchasing this DVD because it means you are helping to support the incredible talent and people that help put this show together.
Squidbillies for those who don’t know, follows the last remnants of a mud squids species that is protected by the government and as such are pretty much given free reign to cause chaos in destruction much at the behest of the Sheriff who is in charge of protecting the area and making sure the rabid drug use, crime, and murder doesn’t get TOO out of control. The show voices the great Unknown Hinson as Early Cuyler with Daniel McDevitt as his son Rusty, and Dana Snyder as Granny. As mentioned the DVD costs $15 and it really is superb with the special features it has even if I wish there was more of it. And would it kill Dave Willis to smile a bit more????(Jk, Dave, we love ya).
