Syfy Gets Linear TV Rights To DC Universe’s “Harley Quinn”

Starting May 3rd @ 11pm ET/PT on Syfy, the network will be airing all episodes of Harley Quinn’s first season broken up in blocks of mini-marathons each week through the end of the month. The first four episodes will air on May 3rd, then three episodes a week each of the following week will air until the conclusion of the season. Season two is currently streaming on DC Universe.

Harley Quinn stars in this adult animated action-comedy series featuring a whole cast of heroes and villains, old and new, from the DC Universe. In the show, Harley Quinn has finally broken things off with the Joker and attempts to make it on her own as the criminal Queenpin of Gotham City.

Our Take

Syfy makes odd programming decisions when it comes to it’s adult animation. First, they have the gall to go up against Toonami on Saturday Nights with their TZGZ line-up. Now, they are premiering the linear broadcast of Harley Quinn opposite Rick and Morty, an animated franchise that their own Syfy Newswire happily mashes clickbait articles about on an almost weekly basis. The last time an original animated series went opposite Rick and Morty,it didn’t end well.

It will be interesting to see what this means for Syfy moving forward. Their parent company has just signed on Seth MacFarlane to an overall deal, and the Syfy head has promised more new original animated series. So far, they’ve ordered one original pilot from their TZGZ run to series.
