Season Review: Mike Judge’s Beavis And Butt-Head Season Nine
A live-action Beavis and Butt-Head series has been rumored for a while now, and I gotta tell you, I am absolutely NOT one of those people who endorses the idea. The ninth season of Mike Judge’s Beavis And Butt-Head featured the classic characters re-inserted into a more contemporary age with smartphones, drones, and whatever else stupid shit we can come up with. However, we also got a multiverse take on the series featuring “Smart” and “Old” variations of the characters. I liken this method to just going for a jog when you’re looking to lose some weight. A live-action series, would be getting the gastro-bypass which is both a lazier way of doing things, because it does nothing to change your eating habits, and the uglier way of doing things because I’ve never seen anyone look that much better.
For what it’s worth, the ninth season of Mike Judge’s Beavis And Butt-Head was an excellent reboot of the series which showcased an incredible writing staff, one of the best studios in the business in Titmouse producing the series, and Mike Judge’s classic riffs derived from the titular characters which are just as iconic as the guitar riffs derived from the bands on Beavis and Butt-Head’s shirts at this juncture. Moreover, I actually started to prefer some of the different variations of the characters like the aforementioned “Old” and “Smart” adaptations, as well as an older Stewart, the return of Tom Anderson, and a plethora of new characters that can hold a bunch of promise. No, we didn’t get any Daria cameos which I was surprised about due to the fact that it would’ve been a great way to re-introduce a couple of those characters to help increase streaming numbers for the OG series, but really that’s a small gripe.
No, none of the premises are going to blow you away and really we don’t need that. Star Trek: Lower Decks does a deep enough job of dramedy-story telling, this series is here for one thing and one thing only, gut-busting laughs, and the franchise is not showing any signs of slowing down in any foreseeable future of relenting on this simple concept. Even the cutaways showed a bunch of variety this season, yes, we get some roasting of popular music videos produced by Megan Thee Stallion/Cardi B, Camila Cabello, and BTS, but the show also took aim at the numerous Tiktokers and Youtubers that are out there doing stupid shit every day, and that comedy gold mine is rife for the pickings.
Mike Judge reached “god” status a long time ago for his contributions to adult animation and that will only get bigger as his Bandera Entertainment looks to offer up more franchises with his thumbprint, but Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head return season certainly shows that he’s not giving up that title anytime soon, and that these characters are still iconic, contemporary, and most importantly, downright hysterical. One drawback, the show isn’t a completely uncensored series which is an issue that I’ve also noticed on Star Trek: Lower Decks and I think that needs to change for this series to continue to grow in different ways and truly exhibit not just staying powers, but elite prowess.
A second season of ten episodes are on the way, and I, for one, can’t wait.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
