Review: The Legend of Vox Machina “The Killbox”;”Belly of the Beast”;”The Hope Devourer”

Overview:

Despite his weakened state, Grog confronts his uncle, Kevdak, in a fight to the death. The battle is intense, with Grog taking a beating at the hands of his uncle’s Titanstone Knuckles, another Vestige of Divergence. As Grog is about to fall, the rest of Vox Machina arrives, just in time to join the fray.

While Scanlan makes a fateful and shocking discovery about his past, Vax confronts the Matron of Ravens to uncover the truth about the mysterious pact he made with her. At the same time, Vox Machina teams up with Grog’s Herd and sets their sights on Umbrasyl, preparing an ambush to take down the dreaded black dragon.

As the black dragon Umbrasyl escapes their attempted ambush, Vox Machina pursues him to Gatshadow Mountain. In the fearsome acid-filled tunnels of Umbrasyl’s lair, Vox Machina must make a final stand against the evil dragon.

Our Take:

This season of Vox Machina has flown by at a breakneck pace. It feels like just yesterday that it started and now it’s over. I suppose that’s what happens when you drop three episodes a week as opposed to one. But I have to say that each episode was so fantastic I can’t think of a bad one. The pacing was fast but not necessarily in an uncomfortable way. Some of the events felt like they happened a bit too quickly but for the most part, it was paced well.

If it took one season to take down one of the dragons does that mean we can expect at least three more seasons?! I’m kind of joking but it very well could be. At the very least I think we can expect a lot more Vox Machina for the time being, Amazon seems to understand they have a smash hit on their hands.

If you read my reviews regularly you would know that characters are everything to me. Good characters can cover a lot of bases like even a bad story. Luckily, this has both going for them and they are managing the characters fantastically. Most of the characters got time to shine, I would say that Percy and Pike didn’t get much but they did have a pretty big chunk of season one’s development.

I have to say that trying to kill a dragon by flying into its asshole was something new I didn’t ever expect to see. However, from what I have learned of Vox Machina it seems par for the course with them.

The amazing voice talent assembled for this just kept growing better and better. They even got Henry Winkler to voice a character. As this series gets further along and more and more popular I think the star power will only increase.

This second season of Vox Machina was everything I wanted and more. Whether you love the podcast, D&D, or just animation in general you will find something to love here. Believe me when I say I can’t wait to go over everything in my season review. Beware of spoilers though because I won’t be holding anything back!
