Spoilers Below

After another rough go at it with a cockroach that ends with the Men In Black line ‘Roaches check in…they don’t check out’ the Awesomes head back to their mountain only to on lock down because Gadget Gal’s arch-nemesis Tomboy is looking to start some shit. And guess what? Dr. Malocchio knows ALL about it. Problem is, Gadget Gal doesn’t have her purse so the fight takes a bit longer than usual which sucks because the Awesomes’ powers are neutralized whilst in this room. To help pass the time the guys start telling stories while Gadget tries to fight off Tomboy and her team of bowlers.

Its here we learn how everyone grew up like the fact that Tim was basically born with powers and the Concierge learning all about being organized. Turns out never had much of a story, but Impresario tells a tale of how he got started. We find out that he found his magical jewel on a beach which gave him these Green Lantern-esque powers but because of how much he loves his mom it causes his manifestations to always be accompanied by his mother.

Impresario’s mom actually shows up to the mountains, but we need to hear the Prock and Muscleman story of how they went from the team known as Brains and Brawn to that in the present day of being The Awesomes. We learn that even at an early age Prock and Muscleman were teammates always looking to prove themselves but when given the opportunity usually waste it. When we come back from the cutaway we see the evil Dr. chowing down on some sushi

When we get back from break, Impresario learns that he doesn’t need his jewel for the powers so he breaks down the panic room door and we find out that Tomboy and Gadget are talking it out. Turns out Tomboy’s been in love with Gadget, but the feelings aren’t mutual. Molocchio is pissed, but more so because his sweater has a stain on it and now he has to go to The Gap. Tim’s parents show up and they threaten to take him home!

A lot better effort this time around by The Awesomes as the team is starting to coalesce and gel when it comes to jokes and stuff. From old lady jokes by Gadget to Muscleman’s brash personality, this week’s episode showed everyone’s strength and weaknesses in terms of character development. For example, Prock seems like a decent guy, but Hotwire is a bitch and a half so I’m not going to root for Prock in scoring with this chick. Tim is a very funny character and Bobby Lee is great as him, but  Ike Barinholtz as Muscleman is starting to steal the show showing these SNL cats that MADtv is well represented here. However the premise for this episode has been used a dozen times before in that the writers come up with SOMETHING do so as to harbor an excuse to sit around something and tell stories. As a matter of fact I didn’t think the panic room setting used by The Awesomes was not all too dissimilar to the one utilized by Family Guy in “The Griffin Family History”. That said I do think this show is starting to grow and get better and am actually looking forward to the next episode.
