Review: The Adventures of Kid Danger “Tiny Toddler; Magical Beefery Tour “

Beeeeef-caaaake!

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

“Tiny Toddler”

After carelessly misplacing his shrink ray at a Chuck-E-Cheese style restaurant, Captain Man and Kid Danger have to battle a baby-themed dwarf supervillain named “The Toddler” to win it back.

“Beefery Tour”

When Captain Man and Kid Danger find a golden pickle in one of their burgers, they win the private tour of a secret factory that’s both Burger-themed and feels very Wonka-esque. But underneath the whimsical happenings, nothing is what it seems…

Our Take

“Tiny Toddler” from a storytelling standpoint aims to be a ridiculous kind of fun, but the more I thought about it, the more I realize that all of the property damage that happens later in the story while stopping the Toddler and his goons, could’ve been avoided if Captain Man actually took the damn shrink ray with him. It’s a poorly written mess and becomes even more awkward when Piper at one point who partakes in the games, later wants a Kiss from Kid Danger. I know she doesn’t know it’s her brother, and he does sort-of find a solution around this predicament, but it was so damn cringe-worthy to watch during the proceedings.

As for “Beefery Tour”, while attempting to be a not-so-subtle parody of the classic 70’s Willy Wonka movie, It brought back a classic villain from the live action series that I’m sure longtime fans would be quick to recognize and appreciate to see in animated form, but the Villain’s goals seem both elaborate like a classic Bond-villain, but fails at making him a legitimate threat during the proceedings. As an episode that tries to parody a piece of Iconic pop culture, It doesn’t try to be clever, or follow the same beats as some parodies attempt doing because it stops to a point just to move the plot forward with an ending that will leave you or anyone with a brain, confused and angry by the sheer absurdity of it, just from the out of nowhere twist alone.

From an animation standpoint, this feels like a slight improvement and is less stiff compared to the last two episodes. And from a storytelling standpoint, There are moments where you’d have a hard time suspending your disbelief over the absurdity of what happens in them since apparently in this universe, there’s a “Moogle Translate” app on smartphones that helps you Translate Cow language Or the fact that a Chuck-E-Cheese-style restaurant is run by grossly incompetent morons who can’t even recognize their own merchandise when they see it or react realistically at the sight of a shrunken person.

Overall, while the animation has slightly improved itself, It doesn’t help that some jokes were cringe-worthy in places and barely gave me a chuckle. To me, a comedy works if it makes you laugh and your mileage may vary if you’re into humor that feels simplistic and lacks anything clever to accomplish what it’s trying to do.
