Review: Star Trek: Lower Decks “Mining The Mind’s Mines”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

On a remote science outpost, stone orbs are bringing fantasies to life. Tendi starts her first day as a Senior Science Officer Trainee.

Our Take

One of the cool things about this season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is that each episode is giving something a bit different in terms of the structure of the episode. This week, we get something a little more chunky around the plot, but that’s not to say the episode wasn’t a laugh riot because I thought it was great. Instead of just doing inside Star Trek jokes, we’re starting to get more references to prior seasons of the animated series which finally rewards those who maybe aren’t Star Trek fans but still enjoy Lower Decks.

While not the technical marvel that was last week’s episode, “Mining The Mind’s Mines” was still an entertaining romp that continues to truck the franchise forward in terms of character development (Tendi’s ascension up the scientific ranks I think is going to be important) and maybe even potential love interests because I have been sensing something going on with Boimler and Mariner and, quite frankly, I think their fantasies coming to light may be more of a red herring than anything else. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m getting a similar vibe to the early Lana/Archer days of their relationship status.
