Review: Red vs Blue “Fight the Good Fight”

blah blah blah DEATH BATTLE NEXT WEEK

Spoilers Below

We have another smaller entry this week that also works as a bridge between the Blood Gulch Chronicles and the Recollection Trilogy. It’s basically a propaganda commercial made by Project Freelancer that was clearly made for both teams, though we only get to see the Red Team version. We also have a return to the Halo 2 game engine, which (along with some dialogue) hints that this takes shortly after the end of Season 5, as Grif has been made Sergeant and his and Simmons’ transfer is imminent.

Additionally, like the previous episodes showing how the Blood Gulch group was formed and the Funhaus written episodes, this gives us indicators that subtly inform how this operation may have been more unique to the simulation than we originally knew. For one, the Funhaus guys already had their Halo 3 armor, and the commercial seen here primarily shows that armor. So, it might be possible that the Blood Gulch operation’s armor was deliberately downgraded, maybe to assure less casualties and mishaps (not that it helped in the slightest).

Either way, I guess I should talk about the episode itself instead of boring you with my fanwank. I will say this reminds me a hell of a lot of the Camp Camp “commercial” released just before the show itself, in that they have the exact same purpose: Show the thing it’s advertising is great when it’s actually dangerous and awful. It’s the same joke again but with RVB, which at least makes it a bit more enjoyable for me.

Plus, as said, it partially fills in the gap between two periods of the show, so it’s neat seeing these characters as they were in a certain point in time. Moving around random points in a timeline is a liberty an anthology has over a standard story, so it’s nice to see them taking full advantage of that.

So yeah, another fun short one. Not a whole lot to say, just like with the rest of these in-between episodes. Next time however, IT’S TIME FOR A DEATH BATTLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEE
