Review: Marvel’s Spider-Man “The Living Brain”

Insane in the robo-brain.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

On the summer finale of Spider-Man, The Living Brain, a robot controlled by Doc Ock’s mind, helps get both he and Spidey locked up in a Super Villain containment center. While there, Spidey gets into fights with The Beetle and Electro, but it’s his battle with The Living Brain that causes a mind swap between supervillain and superhero. Meanwhile, Spider-Girl returns to help Kid Arachnid so as to take out The Beetle, however, it’s probably going to be up to them to stop the now Doc Ock-controlled Spider-Man.

Our Take

The choreography and dialogue for this show are still rather lame, but the twist ending was actually rather well-done. And thankfully, because the Living Brain was really just the most cliched walking-talking robot you’re ever going to see, with a silly looking character design and dialogue that sounds like it was ripped from the discarded pages of throwback Lost In Space. Doc Ock (and The Beetle) were two villains the producers got correct, so the fact that this episode was predicated on those two makes me happy. But, can we all agree the name “Kid Arachnid” is about as unoriginal a name as you can get?
