Review: Magical Girl Friendship Squad: Origins “The Emptier Will See You Now”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Alex and Daisy are in an interdimensional office building that belongs to The Emptier aka the guy that Verus works for. This guy supposedly has killed Red Panda and offers the girls an internship at his company. Sensing the bullshit, the girls decline The Emptier’s offer just as Red Panda becomes a human and we get a battle royal with the fate of our universe hanging in the balance. Alex and Daisy win out and possibly make a new friend out of Verus, but Red Panda warns that their planet may not be as they left it.

Our Take

I was very much letdown by the direction of The Emptier villain as I think Trump parodies are beyond played out. That said, the battle scene was excellent, and very well-produced given what I’m assuming was a minuscule budget compared to some of the big boys out there. It’s a strong finale to the Origins portion of Magical Girl Friendship Squad and one that beautifully sets up the proper series coming in the Summer of 2020 from Syfy. We’ll do a season review that goes into more detail next week, but if Magical Girl Friendship Squad: Origins is a precursor to the main series, then we are going to be in for one hell of a ride that could challenge a bunch of the mainstays for top animated series supremacy.
