Review: Gary And His Demons “The Seven”
At the eleven.
Overview (Spoilers Below)
The seven is a yearly gathering of other demon slayers like Gary to talk shop and probably discuss all the fun that is entailed from their respected professions. This year, we find out that all of the demon slayers besides Gary have in fact retired which means Gary has to teach up a new class of demon slayer hopefuls. But, when he tells the kids the “joys” of being a demon hunter, trouble ensues when one of the rookies disappears leading to Gary and the others to try and rescue her. They do just that and team up for a fight with a giant demon that leads to victory and Gary being able to return home.
Our Take
This was an episode that had a bunch of promise but not a lot of follow through. A Voltron-team up would’ve been fun, as would an actual battle being portrayed, but neither of those things happened and instead, we get a slight build up to what looked to be an exciting climax only for it to fizzle in favor of some silly side story with Leslie and some dude. We probably could have gotten something really special, instead, Gary heading to Japan was a wasted trip. There were a few funny scenes involving Gary and the kids which help the score a bit, but this one could’ve been stronger.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
