Review: Family Guy “Herpe the Love Sore”
Spoilers Below
When there is a mix up in the mail, and Peter ends up with Quagmire’s whip, you can only expect another montage of funny ways he can use it. The first view minutes of the episode showcase different funny ways Peter can use a whip. Reminds me how he used a forklift a few episodes ago. Problems arise when a group of bullies take his booth at the Clam, and emasculate the three friends. Now with their reputations tarnished, Peter, Joe, and Quagmire become targets of ridicule and shame.
Meanwhile, Stewie decides that he wants to become blood-brothers with Brian. The two characters share a deep bond on the show, so it only makes sense, right? Wrong. Waking up in the morning, Stewie discovers a patch of herpes on his lip. Brian has given Stewie herpes. Now in a thirst for vengeance, Stewie teams up with Chris in order to get back at Brian.
“Herpe the Love Sore” isn’t one of my favorite episodes of Family Guy ever. While I enjoyed Peter’s half of the episode, Brian and Stewie’s episode went for some shock comedy with intensely animated herpes. It really just made me uncomfortable to be honest. As for the whip montage, I enjoyed it, but I think I’m growing tired of this gag. We had it a few episodes with a fork lift, and I’m starting to think they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel. How they wrapped up Peter’s side of the episode also really confused me, and left me unsatisfied.
It wasn’t all bad though. I found a lot of the cut-aways to be funny. We also get a hilarious cameo from Heisenberg himself, Bryan Cranston. Like I mentioned above, the whip montage was great, I just think it’s a gag they need to take a break from for a little while. Get original, I’d love to see something new. Also, Meg had a small part in this episode, but her scene with Peter was very funny.
Overall, it wasn’t that great of an episode. It made me laugh quite a bit, but I found the herpes to be pretty discomforting. I was already feeling nauseous the entire day, so it definitely didn’t help my already weak stomach. I understand the kind of comedy they were going for, but it really isn’t my cup of tea. I also didn’t care for how these two stories ended. Brian and Stewie share a heart-felt moment, but I don’t think it made up for the rest of the episode. Sadly, this episode receives my lowest score yet.
What did you think of “Herpe the Love Sore”? Did you appreciate the shock comedy? Think I need to act like Peter this episode and man up? Let me know below! Thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your week.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
