Review: Craig of the Creek “The Curse”

Was this episode “Cursed”?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

When confronting two Wiccan teen girls for violating the sanctity of Craig, Kelsey and JP’s Creek hiding spot, the 3 kids consequently get cursed leading to a series of unfortunate yet comical situations.

Our Take

While the episode mostly relied on the comedic mishaps of the three main characters after being supposedly “Cursed”, many of these unfortunate events are simply played for laughs due to how blown out of proportion these minor annoyances & inconveniences occur as the episode progresses.

As they try to figure out solutions to their problem, the heart of this episode was mostly between the Two “witches” named Tabitha and Courtney (Voiced by Karen Kilgariff and Georga Hardstark respectively) who in reality just needed a place to vent out the frustrations of not being able to see each other due to one of them graduating to college.

Near the end of the episode, you get the implication that there’s something more beyond Tabitha & Courtney’s friendship from their hand-holding & chemistry, but given Cartoon Network’s recent track record of implied (and sometimes confirmed ) LGBTQ characters in shows such as Adventure Time and Steven Universe, It’s not outside the realm of possibility.

Overall, this was a decently paced and funny episode where the humor and character moments are where it shined for me the most. And whether or not we’ll see more Tabitha & Courtney as recurring characters remains uncertain, but the writers could be doing something clever with the Tarot Cards by foreshadowing possible events to come.
