Recap: Family Guy Comic-Con@Home 2021 Panel

It is a milestone year for Family Guy as September will mark the premiere of the show’s 20th season. An impressive feat for a series that has already been cancelled once. Regardless, Seth MacFarlane’s animated series is the second-longest running in history, behind only The Simpsons.

With significant markers for the franchise coming up in a short few months, hopes were high that this would be a big convention for Family Guy. Even with San Diego Comic-Con opting to do another year of the virtual version of the events with Comic-Con@Home 2021, other shows have been able to excite fans.

Unfortunately, the creatives behind this year’s panel seemed to be as uninspired as the writers behind some of Family Guy’s recent episodes. The event was void of any of the usual excitement like fan questions, sneak peeks at next season, or looks at concept art. Instead, it was a game night for Seth MacFarlane and company.

The half-an-hour panel was spent playing Family Guy trivia with third party company Trivia With Budds. Panellists MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis, Seth Green, Arif Zahir, Rich Appel, and Alec Sulkin played a few rounds. Unsurprisingly, the show’s creator swept the game, putting shame to everyone else’s Family Guy knowledge.

While the unimaginative panel may have avoided everything to do with discussing next season, some new footage is available. There are about 6-minutes of content released as a preview for what is to come in season 20. Unfortunately, it was not a part of the panel but can be found on Family Guy social media pages.

However, there was one point to watching the cast and crew play trivia about the show that they are on. Tucked into the middle of the event was a list of names planned to appear in the next season. Some of them will be reprising roles, some will find a new spot on the show, and a couple will be guest appearances. Though the names are impressive, Sam Elliot, Jay Pharoah, Justin Hartley, Zach Levi, Chris Parnell, Patton Oswalt, Mike Judge, Leslie Uggams, Kenny Loggins, and more will be hitting Quahog.

Family Guy has never been known for exciting panels, but there was not much point to this virtual event. These cast and crew members could have enjoyed this trivia night on their own behind closed doors and spent the panel answering questions from fans. If you have not been disappointed by Family Guy before, can you really call yourself a fan?

You can watch the full Family Guy panel on the official Comic-Con@Home website. Though, again, there really is not much to see unless you want to see Mila Kunis get every trivia question wrong.
