Ranking Every Episode of “Rick and Morty” Season Four From Worst To Best
The meta-commentary we were introduced to in Claw and Hoarder comes to full fruition in this season’s equivalent of Interdimensional Cable. But although I admire the team for offering yet another anthological alternative to watching nonsensical programming from outer space, I must admit that this one was the weakest of the bunch. Sure, the Cable episodes were inconsequential, but that was part of the point. What mattered was that their stories were also grounded in external logic, something which Never Rick and Morty blatantly disregards. Why I feel fine suspending my disbelief to see Rick face off against the devil himself (like he did in Something Ricked This Way Comes), and not make his way through an extraterrestrial Story Train, I cannot say, but something really irks me about the sheer improbability of this premise. If you stop fighting the episode and just go along for the ride, it becomes more enjoyable, and while the ending leaves you feeling empty, more ashamed of yourself than betrayed by the showrunners, that’s the point.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
