Netflix Lists Ghost in the Shell: SAC _2045 As “English Dub…Pending” On Day Of Release…WTF DOES THAT MEAN?

After months of announcements and teases for the release of Ghost in the Shell: SAC _2045,  Netflix has released the long-awaited series WITHOUT an English dub adaptation, which has been a slowly increasing trend for Netflix originals over the last year or so. Instead, the series’ English dub adaptation is listed as “Pending” by the show’s page which looks like this. We’ve reached out to Netflix for a comment but have not heard back yet as to why there hasn’t been an English dub release for the series.

After a global financial crisis, the world is engulfed in an AI-driven war, and it’s up to Section 9 to counter new forms of cyber threats.
Our Take

This is very disappointing, and not the first time Netflix has pulled this sort of shit. A couple years ago, the streaming service surprisingly launched The Disastrous Life of Saiki K seasons two AND three without an English dub, only to follow up with the Reawakened series that does have an English dub. Most recently, Sol Levante and Masameer: The Movie both launched in their respective languages with no English language adaptation to be seen.

If Netflix continues to pull this shit, they are going to lose millions of subscribers because Johnny fucking Texas is not going to want to read a bunch of English text when he’s watching his original series.

Update 5:30 pm ET: We’re learning the delay of the English dubbed adaptation is as a result of the pandemic which is causing production delays. Yet another example of anime being behind the ball when it comes to production at home whereas American-produced series are on top of it.

Update 5/3/20: The English dub has been made available and you can read our review here.
