Nick Weidenfeld, the former executive for both Adult Swim and FOX’s ADHD block, has inked a first-look deal with Hulu. The Neo Yokio producer’s deal will be for adult animation and for the development and producing of said content with the streaming service hoping to capture some of the stellar success Nick has had at his previous haunts helping usher in excellent intellectual properties like Axe Cop,Lucas Bros. Moving Company, Rick and Morty, and Robot Chicken.
Hulu used to be a decent spot for original animated content like Mother Up! and The Awesomes but most of the production dollars from Hulu went to huge content agreement contracts with the likes of South Park which definitely has been working, but Hulu’s announcements for original adult animation has been few and far between with the likes of Netflix dominating and both Apple and Amazon having greenlit original series within the last couple of weeks.
