HBO Max today announced it has ordered the adult animated series Santa Inc. from Lionsgate featuring voice performances by leads Sarah Silverman and Seth Rogen. The 8 episode, half-hour series will be written by showrunner Alexandra Rushfield (Shrill) and will be produced by Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures.

Santa Inc. is the story of Candy Smalls (Silverman), the highest-ranking female elf in the North Pole. When the successor to Santa Claus (Rogen) is poached by Amazon on Christmas Eve, Candy goes for her ultimate dream— to become the first woman Santa Claus in the history of Christmas.

Rushfield, Silverman, Amy Zvi and Anomalisa’s Rosa Tran will also serve as executive producers on the series.

Our Take

The exodus to us animation scum is continuing and I’M OKAY WITH IT! Seth Rogen earlier this week announced that he’s also working on an adult animation film so it sounds like he’s caught the bug. The lovely Sarah Silverman has done tons of voice work and is a regular on series like Bob’s Burgers. Also, it’s not lost on me that we have two people who were raised Jewish voicing characters that are trying to replace a Christian fable. I’m totally here for this, but will conservatives have an issue? Only one way to find out!

In related news, HBO MAX has announced that select anime titles from Crunchyroll will be made available at launch which is expected to be May 27th and that it will be a mix of subtitled and English dubbed titles. While a list of the English dubs have not been made available yet, looking at the list of all of the titles obvious candidates like In/Spectre and Bungo Stray Dogs seem to be good bets given that they are both available dubbed on Crunchyroll today. The titles in italics are the ones we’re guessing are going to be available in bilingual formats.
