FOX Orders Triumph Special & Animated Presentation For “Ocean Village”

FOX has itself a busy day in projects that are very much in the vein of Animation Domination. First up, FOX Entertainment has announced the all-new election-themed puppet special LET’S BE REAL, executive-produced by Robert Smigel (“Triumph the Insult Comic Dog”), and scheduled to air Thursday, Oct. 1 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The satirical comedy event will cover politics, pop culture and the 2020 election through topical sketches featuring puppets, celebrity cameos and remote pieces. Produced by Propagate, LET’S BE REAL is the first-ever collaboration between FOX Entertainment’s Scripted and Unscripted departments.

LET’S BE REAL is produced by Propagate in association with FOX Entertainment. Robert Smigel serves as writer and executive producer on the special. Ben Silverman, Howard Owens and Kevin Healy are executive producers on behalf of Propagate; Gerald-Brice Viret for Canal+; while Arnaud Renard and Matthieu Porte of Can’t Stop Media also executive-produce.  Rachael Field serves as a producer. Bruce Leddy directs the special. Puppet Heap created the puppets. LET’S BE REAL is based on the Canal+ format “Les Guignols.”

FOX has also ordered an animated presentation for a new series called Ocean Village from Deep Space 69 creator Daniel Cardenas Katz. Included in the order are two scripts and an animatic presentation that will be written by Katz with Tim Saccardo (American Dad) supervising. According to Deadline who broke the story, Ocean Village follows the Diaz family as they navigate life in a sun-baked tropical village based on the Florida island where series creator Katz grew up, and experienced his first iguana attack. The Diazes are part-immigrant, blended, multi-cultural, and trying to get by in what would be paradise if it wasn’t for the raccoon gangs, beach bums, crusty retirees and mosquitos the size of cats.

Look Mom Productions, Dan Lubetkin (The Healing Powers of Dude, Workaholics); and Nick Weidenfeld are your producers in conjunction with Bento Box Entertainment and FOX Entertainment. According to the story, the pitch was in development for Hulu but FOX nabbed it instead who is going bananas in ordering new original series for it’s already busy Animation Domination lineup leading to rumors of a second night being launched after the upcoming NFL season.
