English Dub Season Review: Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan Season One

Overview:

In the studio of the morning childrens’ show “Together with Maman,” a crew of miserable adults prepares their facades of amicable smiles and cheerful exteriors to educate a group of innocent preschoolers. In the middle of it stands Uramichi Omota, a former gymnast who can’t help but bring the kids down to earth by revealing the harsh and depressing reality of adulthood, even in front of the rolling cameras.

Our Take:

Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan is one of the best anime comedies I’ve seen. Sometimes comedy in anime is hard to pull off but this show manages to do it really well. It aired in the summer season and the dub just wrapped up but believe me when I say you should give this a watch.

From a technical aspect, you are going to get some great voice acting. Adam Gibbs voices Uramichi and does a fantastic job bringing his “sick of it all” attitude to life. I love Adam Gibbs and he was perfectly cast for this. Ray Chase does a great job playing a supporting character when I think of him as more of a leading role type. But he definitely puts his all into his role as Usahara and the character definitely leaves an impression.

Now I might sound a little biased with what I am about to say because I love Johnny Yong Bosch. But he absolutely steals the show and his character isn’t even introduced until the latter half of the season. Almost every time he was onscreen he was saying something hilarious. He definitely made the most of the character’s minimal screentime.

As far as the plot, there really isn’t much here. Just your standard slice of life fare but it makes up for that in the humor. Seriously, if you are at least eighteen years old and have worked a job for a while you will relate. This is kind of sad in a way but hey they say humor is the best way to cope right? If that’s the case then the cast of “Together with Maman” is doing something right.

I really hope there is a second season but unlike some other shows, I don’t think this necessarily needs one. It comes in has a lot of fun and leaves before its overstayed its welcome. So I think a second season would have to bring a lot to the table to be justified. As it stands all of Life Lessons with Uramichi Oniisan is out and you can binge it all. Which I highly suggest you do!
