English Dub Review: Takt Op.Destiny “Master and Pupil -Lenny-”

Overview

Lenny remembers his own past. As he recalls someone very dear to him. Everything leading up to today was so that he could do everything he could to do what he had to do. Lenny heads to the meeting point along with Titan so they can tell Takt and Destiny everything. But someone rather unexpected was waiting for them…

Our Take

This time around, we actually get to know more about Lenny and his backstory. He’s easily one of the more likable side characters and we also get to see a lot more of his Musicart “Titan” along with their character chemistry together. Reagan Murdock who voiced Lenny in the Dub really sells the drama and emotional range despite sounding eerily similar to Ian Sinclair with his smooth-talking Space Dandy voice.

And as expected, like most cliche anime flashback episodes, everything slowly comes full circle as Takt’s father falling victim to the infamous “Boston incident” the show has talked about so much was the result of corruption and conspiratorial bullshit within the hierarchy of the very same Symphonica that recruited Lenny to begin with. Though It felt a bit short-handed with how rushed things progressively got within this episode.

Overall, this big reveal gave us something but it doesn’t seem to be the big picture. At the very least, Lenny as a character was decently written as he went from a mysterious nomad that helped put Takt on his feet as a conductor, to being the hero and potential “whistleblower” this world actually needed by uncovering the truth about the New York Symphonica itself, despite the dire consequences before him. His ties to Takt’s father were a justified reason for him being so indebted to Takt and honestly, I couldn’t help but see him as a guardian/mentor of sorts to Takt at the very end. I’m somehow interested in the reasoning of the antagonist who plotted this out and why, though I will keep my expectations low in case his motivations turn out to be something extremely stupid…
