English Dub Review: Sabikui Bisco “Children’s Fortress”

Overview

On their way to Akita, Bisco and Milo pass by the sea of Calbero and arrive at a desolate town under threat from the deadly creatures, Flying Blowfish. A town that’s also full of children and devoid of adults. Meanwhile, Pawoo encounters a mysterious couple living in some ruins as she pursues the others…

Our Take

This time around we get a sort of Pawoo-focused episode as she goes on a quest to get Milo back whom she blindly believes Bisco kidnapped and who could blame her stubborn nature? She learns from the couple about a Mushroom Keeper that may have allegedly fucked with the town’s populace with the only clue being a particular phrase/sentence that may or may not have relevance later on.

While in a separate subplot, Bisco & Milo learn about why the town is inhabited by abandoned kids, that at first remain apprehensive, but after seeing the threat that’s been plaguing them, of course they aren’t gonna pass up the chance to prove they’re good people. The giant flying pufferfish invasion is also a sight to behold, and while Milo meant well helping all the kids, he still has an obligation to go back to Bisco near the end. While Kurokawa comes across an unexpected survivor from a previous episode.

Overall, the show continues to deliver on showing the adventurous journey with world-building elements while further introducing new creatures in this episode that look like something completely otherworldly. As for Pawoo’s storyline, the story that was told to her feels like it only served to deepen her hostility towards mushroom keepers which means if Bisco and Pawoo meet again, they won’t be getting along anytime soon…
