English Dub Review: Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious “Neat and Tidy but Overly Nymphomaniacal”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Aria soothes Rista’s worries about Adenela and Seiya. She’s also helped Mash and Elulu find their inner power and level up. Mash has gained the ability to morph his arm into a dragon arm, and Elulu had hidden support magic all along. However, when Aria finds out that Seiya’s been training with Mitis, she panics and tells them that Mitis was banished to the very forest they’re training in due to her nymphomaniacal, predatory behavior with human men.

Rista rushes over to inform Seiya, but she finds Mitis tied to a tree, naked. Mitis prattles on about bondage while Seiya has no interest, and shoots her in the head. Mitis then attempts to go after Mash, but Seiya subdues her with more arrows. They quickly leave.

Once back in Gaebrande, the gang sees Rosalie has been captured by Beel Bub. Seiya sends Rista into the sky to distract him from dropping her to her death, while Seiya takes care of the oncoming flies. Eventually, Seiya is able to sneak into the sky and shoot Beel Bub. He initially misses, but the arrows transform into birds and fly right back into Beel Bub’s abdomen. They kill all flies, and Rosalie informs them about a legendary suit of armor in Izale.

Once in Izale, they find the entire village has been destroyed by the shopkeeper, Kilkapul, who has been one of the Four Heavenly Kings this whole time. His summoned monster also destroyed the legendary armor.

Our Take

The old complaint is that the show wasn’t spending enough time in the Divine Realm, where the world is clearly more colorful, diverse, and entertaining to watch. Now, on the other hand, going to the Divine Realm as of late only means one thing: dumb, horrible fan-service.

It seems that every episode in the Divine Realm features a goddess who either 1) Falls in love with Seiya despite his lack of personality (and charm) or 2) Is perverted in some form or another. Mitis, who initially seemed cool, turns out to be a rapist! Not only that, but when Seiya fought back, she decided to move onto Mash…who is…twelve years old. A literal child. They also decided to throw in some fantasy shots of what she wanted to do to him, which was absolutely disgusting! Why does anime keep doing this!

Rosalie seemed like a character that was going to be impactful, but she wound up just taking a backseat and leaving. Her headstrong ways of traditional, heroic chivalry definitely wound up hurting her, but she still had a good point in the fact that Seiya’s non-Good alignment/behavior could lead him into bad situations. We’ll probably see her again when (if) the gang finally meets her father somehow, but even then, she seems like a character who lost her potential by being dismissed so much.

What is the series trying to do when it comes to these legendary items that keep being destroyed? What is the point of it? Is it supposed to showcase how a hero like Seiya doesn’t need them? There’s a lot of blue balling, here. He really is just an overpowered Gary Stu.
