Comedy Central’s Daria/Ren & Stimpy Revivals Get Animation Studio

Birdgirl/Squidbillies studio Awesome, Inc. has been tapped as the animation studio for Comedy Central’s Ren & Stimpy reboot as well as the network’s Daria spin-off Jodie starring actress Tracee Ellis Ross voicing the titular character and serving as an executive producer along with Grace Nkenge Edwards who is the show creator. Daria is expected to have many more spin-offs coming down the pike, so this could be a fruitful franchise for the studio.

While other outlets were trying to claim that the Ren & Stimpy reboot wasn’t going to happen for some ridiculous reason, we were the first to report that the revival is still very much happening and Billy West is expected to reprise his role in the iconic series. Comedy Central is ramping up it’s adult animation slate with the aforementioned series, a Beavis and Butt-Head revival, tons of South Parkand the recently announced collaborations with Stephen Colbert. Sister network Paramount+ recently canceled The Harper House after a sole season with it’s first two episodes also getting a network premier on Comedy Central.

Synopsis:

Jodie

“What Daria did for showing how inane high school was for Gen X, Jodie will do for exploring the trials and tribulations of a first job for a new generation. The series will satirize workplace culture, Gen Z struggles, the artifice of social media and more. With themes of empowerment along gender and racial lines, explorations of privilege, and a wicked sense of humor, Jodie will shine a light on the personal and professional issues young Black women face today.”
