Paramount+ Cancels “The Harper House” After One Season

The show’s season finale only streamed a couple of weeks ago, but Brad Neely’s The Harper House has already been canceled after one season on Paramount+. The ten episode series created by Brad Neely and produced by Titmouse stars Rhea Seehorn, Jason Lee, Ryan Flynn, and Tatiana Maslany. You can read our reviews of the first half of season one here and the second half of season one here.

Synopsis:

The series follows the Harpers and focuses on the matriarch and bread-winner Debbie Harper as she is forced to move her family to the poor side of River Creek, Arkansas. Despite their less than ideal living conditions in an old dilapidated house, Debbie does everything she can to reclaim their lost status.

Our Take

Brad Neely laments the fact that the series was produced during COVID-19, but I don’t think this is the last we’re gonna hear from the legendary producer. Personally, I think weekly animated series on streamers is a lost cause, and The Harper House feels like a franchise that should’ve been posted all at once, a strategy Paramount+ seems to be deployed across all of it’s streaming series. I also think the voice cast was very well-constructed. Series that feature voice actors in only one role or so tend not to last very long whereas series where one voice actor can voice multiple characters usually go longer because they are cheaper and take more talent.
