Comedy Central Gets Natasha Rothwell For Lead In “MallTown” From The Stars Of “Broad City:”
It has been over two years last week since we’ve heard about Comedy Central’s long in development Malltown from the stars of Broad City (Abbi Jacobson / Ilana Glazer), but I guess the network is still moving forward with development as Deadline has revealed that Natasha Rothwell (Insecure) has been tapped to star and produce the animated comedy pilot.
MallTown is an animated comedy that follows the afterschool misadventures of a 13-year-old girl navigating the complexities of life in the classic microcosm of American culture that is The Mall. MallTown is written and created by Gabe Liedman (Broad City, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and executive produced by Jacobson and Glazer.
Our Take
First thing’s first. Slight name change as Malltown was previously known as Mall Town USA. Second, Natasha adds a major name for Comedy Central to maybe put their asses into gear and produce some original animated series because, as it stands now, it’s networks like these that are going to suffer in a few months when everybody else can still showcase original animated series and Comedy Central can’t (except South Park…maybe).
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
