“Castlevania” Producer Says “Apu” Being Written Out Of “The Simpsons” ; “Simpsons” Producer Fires Back

It’s another day that ends in “Y”.

Castlevania Adi Shankar made waves earlier this week when he claimed he had sources close to The Simpsons that as a result of all of the silly controversy surrounding the “Apu” character,  the beloved convenience store owner voiced by Hank Azaria was going to be written out of the show for good. As it turns out, this proved not to be the case, as executive producer for The Simpsons, Al Jean, has noted that Adi doesn’t speak for the show and as a result, everything he says regarding the longest-running animated comedy in primetime should be taken with a grain of salt.

The controversy regarding Apu was kicked off by the documentary The Problem with Apu which insinuates that the longtime Springfield resident is somehow a racist caricature of South Asian culture in America. Since then, the conversation has exploded from both sides as to whether or not this is a true statement or if this is just the latest example of extreme PC culture dulling artistic expression. The debate appears to be continuing if only to stoke flames of an overly sensitive liberal millennial audience that most internet publications are trying to fight over so as to somehow keep their dying audiences.

In the meantime, check out this bar dressed up as Moe’s Tavern for Halloween. The Simpsons returns with an all-new episode this Sunday Night on FOX @ 8 pm ET/PT, check your local listings.
